Olivier STALON
Electric and acoustic bass

Belgian born, Binche, 27 November 1974.
Formally, Olivier STALON started his lessons at the Libramont summer workshop in 1994, studying with Fabien Degryse, Pierre Vaïana, Jean-Pierre Catoul and Pirly Zurstrassen.
Thereafter, October 1994 / Jun 1995 he pursued his studies at the Jazz-Studio d'Anvers where he obtained his first level degree with great distinction.
Follows a recording of a CD, presentation concert of the school. He pursues his studies with Maarten Weyler, Chris Joris, Herman Pardon and Stéphane Galland. Combo lessons with Frédéric De Smyter, David H. Crane, Hans Van Oost and Pierre Vaïana.
Summer 1995 workshop of Lundis d'Hortense, lessons with Théo De Jong, Peter Hertmans, Eric Legnini.
In October 1995 he enters the Conservatoire Royal de Musique de Bruxelles where he follows lessons with Michel Hatzigeorgiou, Jean-Louis Rassinfosse, Arnould Massart, Pirly Zurstrassen, Guy Cabay.
Between October 1996 / Jun 1997 he plays bass with the conservatory big-band.
In January 1996 he creates his own group " Quetzal ", with Frédéric Delplancq (saxophones), Jean-Michel Veneziano (guitar) and Laurent Mercier (drums).
That same year, October 1996, Creation of trio " D.G.I.L. " with Philippe Laloy (flûte) and Victor Da Costa (guitar).
In December 1996 he represents the conservatory, during an exchange concert at the Conservatory of Geneva (Switzerland).
He goes on to jointly create trio " Chocotoff " with Emmanuelle Somer and Chris Duerinckx (drums).
This group toured Belgium during the '97 & '98 season.
In Jun 1997 he obtains first prize for electric bass at conservatory.
During the period of September 1997 / Jun 1998 he follows lessons in improvisation with Fabrizio Cassol, at the Académie Jean Absil d'Etterbeek.
In Octobre 1997 formation of a new quartet " M'Sekwassa In The Odds " with Frédéric Delplancq (saxophones), Hans Van Oost (guitar) and Chris Duerinckx (drums).
January 1998 a number of concerts with group " Lilith " and in Jun 1998 obtains first prize for rhythm at the Conservatoire Royal de Musique de Bruxelles.
He then joins the quartet " Contraste ", of guitarist Quentin Dujardin ( Nicolas Kummert saxophone tenor, Arnout Hellofs drums.
November 1998 creation of yet another quartet, with Marta Mus (vocals), Paolo Loveri (guitar), Laurent Mercier (drums).
January 1999 formation of a trio with Marc Frankinet (trumpet) and Jean-Denis Tourneur (guitar).
During spring 1999 Tour with" No Vibrato ".
August 1999 a new quartet, with Frédéric Delplancq (saxophone tenor), Yves Gourmeur (piano) et Kris Duerinckx (drums).
In February 2005, the band QUETZAL releases its first album : Q=MC2
