Jacques PIROTTON

Guitar

Born near Liège in 1955, Jacques PIROTTON starts playing the guitar as selftaught since age 15 and appears with different groups of the region. Thereafter, he studied guitar jazz with Bill FRISELL at the Conservatoire de Liège.
In 1981, Guy LUKOWSKI invited him to the 3d Festival International de guitare.

The following years, he gets the opportunity to work with many Belgian and foreign jazzmen: Serge LAZAREVITCH, John THOMAS, Steve HOUBEN (Zaire in 81, Singapore in 88,...), Guy CABAY, Jean-Pierre GEBLER (Festival of Cascais, Portugal in 83), Michel HERR, Félix SIMTAINE, Freddie DERONDE, Jon EARDLEY, Garrett LIST, Barney WILEN, Michel GRAILLIER, Pete YELLIN, Charlie GREEN, Chet BAKER, Lennart JOHNSON and Jacques PELZER with whom he played in quartet and mainly in duo.
This association generated many concerts, festivals, tours, radio-TV recordings and finally, the production of a duo album : "HAPPY FEW" in 1985.

In 1987, Jacques PIROTTON formed the quartet "ARTLINE" with Benoît VANDERSTRAETEN (electric bass), André CHARLIER (drums), Eric LEGNINI (keyboards).
For the occasion, he composed a repertoire clearly oriented towards contemporary fusion. The recording of a LP "LABYRINTHE" in 1988 confirms the tendency; a music in equilibrium between traditional jazz (Be-Bop) and jazz fusion. Few months later, for the release of the CD, the group will see keyboard player Benoît SOURISSE and tenor sax tenor joining in.

Since summer 1988, Jacques PIROTTON plays a lot in trio and confirms this modern inclination.
With electric bassist Benoît VANDERSTRAETEN and drummer André CHARLIER, Jacques interprets his own compositions half way between Be-Bop, modern jazz and fusion. This trio regularly appears in Belgium and abroad and recorded CDs.

Besides his trio, Jacques PIROTTON also appeared and recorded with the group OCTURN, Erwin VANN's band etc...
He appeared on the CD "Hommage à René Thomas", featuring the cream of the Belgian guitar players.
Jacques PIROTTON appears on the cd Jean-Pierre GEBLER Belgian All Stars : Meggie (Gam 917) etc...

He also plays with the PIROTTON/HOUBEN/POUGIN Trio(Igloo CD "We can't stop loving you")

Jacques PIROTTON also plays in duo with saxophone / clarinet player Fabrice ALLEMAN.

Jacques PIROTTON teaches jazz guitar at the Conservatoire de Luxembourg.
