John PETERSON

Double bass


Born in Chicago in '69, John PETERSON grew up in a musical atmosphere. He starts studying music, playing percussion, then the trombone at the Chicago University. He then switches to the bass. His teachers were Tadd COOLMAN, Steve GILMORE, Don THOMPSON, Kelly SILL and Red MITCHELL.

In the US, John PETERSON played a.o. with saxophonists Anthony BRAXTON and Dave LIEBMAN, trombone player J.J. JOHNSON, singer Judy NIEMACK as well as the Rhythm 'n Blues Band Booker T and the MG's.

He then moves to Brussels, Belgium, where he rapidly integrates the jazz scene, playing a.o. with Félix SIMTAINE, Kris DEFOORT, Ron VAN ROSSUM, Toots THIELEMANS etc...

He frequently plays with pianist Pascal MICHAUX, the group NO VIBRATO and the Mandy GAYNES Quartet. He is also a specialist in blues, rhythm 'n blues, he composes and arranges.

John PETERSON is now based in Vienna, Austria.
