Hendrik LEEUWE

Trumpet / Fluegelhorn

Hendrik LEEUWE was born near Amsterdam (The Netherlands) in 1964. His family settles in Belgium when he is 4. His mother, a piano teacher, and his father, a jazz aficionado, communicate him their love for music.

A self-taught musician, he started playing the drums. At the age of 12, he already plays in a Dixieland band in the Namur area.

Later on, he switches to the trumpet.

In the late eighties, he joins The Deep Creek Jazzuits, a traditional band produced by Belgian Flemish radio VRT. The band has made 3 CDs and did several international tours, in Europe and in Japan.

In 1998, Hendrik LEEUWE joins the big band "Brownie Speaks" of Dutch trumpet player Rob BRUYNEN, a band with which he played several concerts and festivals.

He played with many well known Belgian and Dutch jazz musicians.

More recently, Hendrik LEEUWE formed his own band, STEPS QUARTET, which plays a mix of bebop, fusion and swing. The band, with Dirk SCHREURS (kb), Jean BORLÉE (bass) and Thierry GUTTMAN (drs) appeared a.o. during the "Ciney Jazz Night" festival with Dutch singer Lydia VAN DAM.
