Frédéric JACQUEMIN studied music at the Académie Grétry in Liège from 1975 to 1981. Discovers jazz and during 1982-83 attends lessons at the Liège Jazz Seminar, a.o. courses given by drummer Bruno CASTELLUCCI. From 1983 to 1985, he studies with classical percussionist Georges-Elie OCTORS.

Thereafter, Frédéric JACQUEMIN accompanies some pop artists before joining the Big Band of Wégimont where he gets initiated to big band work. In 1985 he registers to the Conservatoire Royal de BRUXELLES. He complements his studies by working with French drummer André CECCARELLI and also plays with guitarist Robert GRAHAME.

His personal preference ranges from fusion to straight-ahead jazz. In October 1989 he attends classes of the jazz department of the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles, where he brilliantly completes his studies, a.o. with Bruno CASTELLUCCI.

He becomes the regular drummer of the Robert JEANNE Quartet and of the Richard ROUSSELET Quintet, with whom he played many concerts and festivals (Gouvy, etc...) and recorded an album in 1995, "Waitin' For You" (Gam 913).

He was also a member of various project created by bassist/arranger Jean WARLAND :

  • SAX NO END, a 5 saxophones group which pays a tribute to the music of Francy BOLAND, which appeared a.o. in various festivals (a.o. Jazz Middelheim) and radio shows in Belgium and Germany.
  • A Train Sextet, a tribute to Duke ELLINGTON, which played numerous concerts, and did a tv appeance on German tv WDR.

    Frédéric JACQUEMIN played with some of most prominent Belgian jazzmen, such as Jacques PELZER, Jeanfrançois PRINS, Michel HERR, Steve HOUBEN, Jean-Louis RASSINFOSSE, just to mention a few.

    Nowadays, he still plays with the cream of Belgian jazz. He is a member of the Fabrice ALLEMAN Quartet. This band received the Nicolas Dor Prize during the Liège Jazz Festival in '97 and released the CD "Loop the Loop" (Igloo Igl 136). In the Belgian jazz referendum organized by Belgian radios RTBF and VRT, this album was elected best Belgian CD of the year '98. A second cd was released in 2004, titled "Sides of life"

    He still plays with Fabrice ALLEMAN and his two current projects, the Quartet as well as Fabrice ALLEMAN's ONE SHOT Band.

    He also keeps busy playing on the French pop scene with a.o. singers Michel FUGAIN, Bernard LAVILLIERS, in the recording studios or as the house drummer for French tv shows, etc...

    Frédéric JACQUEMIN is considered a talented, flexible and creative drummer.
