Laurent DOUMONT is a musician who is at ease in fusion music and various forms of jazz, with a natural inclination towards soul jazz.

He was part of the creative musical activity which took place in the nineties in the Brussels club "De Kaai", a place where several young avant-garde players used to gather and play in various combinations around the nucleus of the band AKA MOON. He played a.o. with the big band of the Kaai, with a.o. Michel HATZIGEORGIOU, Fabrizio CASSOL, Stéphane GALLAND, Pierre BERNARD, Otti VAN DER WERF, Gino LATTUCA etc...

He played with bluesman Marc LELANGUE and the HEAVY MUFFULETAS, in a band which also included Bert GIELEN (Hammond organ), Patrick D'ORCEAN (drs), Joe HIGHAM (ten. sax) and Otti VAN DER WERF (bass).

Laurent also appeared with the "Homage to Jaco Pastorius", a project created by bassist Michel HATZIGEORGIOU which recreated the big band music of the great US bassist under the musical direction of Peter GRAVES. This big band included some well known names of the Belgian jazz scene, such as : Fabrizio CASSOL, Stéphane GALLAND, Pierre BERNARD, Bert JORIS, Laurent BLONDIAU, Michel SEBA, Erwin VANN, Fabrice ALLEMAN, Jeroen VAN HERZEELE, Othello MOLINEAUX and Jaco's son.

Recently, he founded a group in the soul jazz idiom, the LAURENT DOUMONT SOUL QUINTET.
Bassist Daniel ROMEO produced their first album, which features Laurent DOUMONT (sax, vocals, composer), Patrick DELTENRE (guitar, composer), Bert GIELEN (kb), Otti VAN DER WERF (el. bass) and Bilou DONEUX (drums).
1st album released beginning 2001, titled Laurent DOUMONT Soul Quintet
