Bas COOYMANS studied the double bass at the Maastricht Conservatory (Holland) and graduated with a Master Degree in 1992. Afterwards he studied with Dutch bassist Hein VAN DE GEYN for one and a half year.

In 1993, he moved to Belgium, where he started playing with Belgium's foremost musicians, such as Charles LOOS, Peter HERTMANS, Paolo RADONI, Jeanfrançois PRINS, Michel HERR, Steve HOUBEN, Dré PALLEMAERTS, Richard ROUSSELET, Gino LATTUCA, Félix SIMTAINE, Mimi VERDERAME, Ron VAN ROSSUM and many others.

He had the opportunity to play with internationally known jazz musicians, including Bob SHEPPARD, Chet BAKER, Corey ALLEN, Philip CATHERINE, John RUOCCO, etc.

One of Belgium's busiest bassists, he recently performed a.o. :

  • in trio with pianist Charles LOOS
  • in trio with guitarist Peter HERTMANS
  • in quartet with Charles LOOS and Jean-Pierre CATOUL
  • in quintet with LOOS, Serge LAZAREVITCH, Eric BARRET and Joël ALLOUCHE
  • with Manu HERMIA's Charlie PARKER Project
  • with the Philip CATHERINE Trio, the Phil ABRAHAM Trio ...etc...
