Barbara WIERNIK Groups

Derived from the Greek terms 'melo' (song/music) and the philosophical reunion of 2 principals which complement each other and/or the biological of 2 chromosomes ensemble of both paternal and maternal origine.

The group offers a choice which is varied and coherent at the same time.Featuring often little known compositions of composers of different horizons, such as Daniel Gouyone,Noa, Joni Mitchell, Kenny Wheeler, Marisa Monte or Diederik Wissels.The diversity of musical styles and languages contribute toward bestowing on each piece its specialcharacter.
The group also present its own original compositions.The quintet, with a very acoustic sound based on the unison of a sophisticated rhythmic and puremethodical lines.The result is an enveloping harmony, based on simultaneous and balanced research and nuance.In the same state of mind, the vocal part is utilised as a fully integrated instrument, serving for theinterpretation of songs or wordless pieces.

October 2001 saw the release of the CD Eclipse (Mogno J004) of Barbara WIERNIK and pianist Jozef DUMOULIN.

Barbara WIERNIK:Born in '74, since 4 years following lessons, mainly with DavidLinx. She alsofollowed numerous particular lessons and workshops in Belgium and abroad with Norma Winstone, TetKoffeman, Judy Niemack, Phil Abraham,Christine Shaller, Sampling and Zap Mama, Anka Parghel
In '97, she was awarded Magen David d'or (Golden star of David) to young talents

She had numerous opportunities to perform as soloist or a chorus member. Since '96, she is leading her own groups.


Jozef DUMOULIN:Born in '75, started classic piano, organ and harpsichord lessons at a young age.Accompanied great number of chorals and gave recitals.He turned toward jazz as a self taught and since 3 years is student of Diederik Wissels.Followed workshops with Enrico Pieranuzzi, Mark Levine and Daniel Goyone (compositions).He toured abroad with French guitarist Daniel Visani.


Marco LOCURCIO:Born in '73, a guitar player who starts to be more and more noticed on the Belgian jazz scene.
Studied with John Scofield and 2 CD recordings.


Marten GJAKONOVSKY:Born '70, in Macedonia, formed and influenced by Mike Richmond, E. Gomez... he performed in the US and Europe with, a.o. Kenny Wheeler, A. Zoller, D. Friedman, K. Werner...


Michel SEBA:22 years old, followed percussion lessons with Chris Joris, Didier Labarre and Franck Michiels.Performed in numerous concerts in Belgium and abroad and recorded with Diedrik Wissels, Chris joris, ManuHermia, Steve Houben (Panta Rhei), IvanPaduart, Nut Factory and for few theatre pieces namely with PirlyZurstrassen and Erwin Vann.A.o he also accompanied JP. Catoul, Marcia Maria, Pierre Vaiana, DavidLinx, JL.Rassinfosse, Eric Legnini, FabienDegryse, Michel Hatzi, Stéphane Galland as well as Ilona Shale,Pascal Charpentier and Philippe Lafontaine.
