Lets take a look at the few ways of playing the Major Scale. There is a vertical (three strings) and a horizontal (One string)] approach.
Notice the difference of fingering between the three vertical ways (fig.1,2 and 3).
The ways shown in fig.1 and 2 are for playing in the bottom (first) position using either the open string or the note at the first fret as root ("1") of the scale.
Fig.3 is the movable way of playing the scale .
Notice the fingering of the horizontal way (fig.4): it clearly shows the structure of the scale.

Practice these fingerings; they are of ultimate importance!
