SOUND-TO-GRIP

To be able to improvise ( something every bassplayer wants) You must be able to translate your musical ideas in a way that they are playable on the bassguitar.
I call this the "Sound-to-Grip"-process : the Sound in Your head should result in a grip on the bass. The next few exercises deal with this process in different stages.

EXERClSE 1

"Sound-to-Grip" Connecting the sound in your head to the diagram The next thing is One of the main rules in the world of improvised playing:

FIRST HEAR the note in Your head.
THEN PLAY it.

play the, C (fig.14) and sing it. Point at each note of the C Major Scale in fig.14 and sing it, don't play: only play to check the pitch of your voice. NOW point the notes randomly making the intervals bigger during the exercise and sing the notes.

variations:
- do this exercise with the Minor Scale playing the root first and sing it.
- you can also do this exercise without the bass :
just choose your own root.
