Hans VAN OOSTERHOUT was born, 1965, in The Netherlands.
He starts playing the drums at age 7.
After having finished high school, he was immediately admitted in the jazz department at the Rotterdam conservatory.
Already before completing his studies, he was hired as drum teacher.

Since few years now, Hans has gained a solid reputation and became one of the most sought after drummers in his country and abroad.
He performed alongside Toots THIELEMANS, Stacy ROWLES, Joe PASS, Spike ROBINSON, Bobby WATSON, Bob MINTZER and Miroslav VITOUS.

For a number of years he was member of the Jack VAN POLL trio and currently, the drummer of Paul HOCK Quartet, Rob VAN BAVEL Trio, Peter GUIDI Quartet, Mike DEL FERRO bands, Ronald DOUGLAS Quartet, Enrico PIERANUNZI, Lee KONITZ, Riccardo DEL FRA Chet BAKER project, Hein VAN DE GEYN Quartet and the fusion group TARGET.

With some of these groups he toured Europe, U.S.A., South Africa, China.

On top of his frequent appearances, Hans also recorded a lot, these last years, and gained recognition from many musicians and critics, due to his great flexibility and his ability to adapt to different musical styles while contributing to musicality, sensitivity, and showing great enthusiasm and open mind.

Hans VAN OOSTERHOUT has been frequently associated with many Belgian musicians and groups : Toots THIELEMANS, Frank VAGANEE, Nathalie LORIERS (several CDs), Diederik WISSELS and David LINX, Michel HERR, Ivan PADUART (several CDs) etc...

In the Belgian jazz referendum organized by Belgian radios RTBF and VRT, Hans VAN OOSTERHOUT was elected best European drummer of the year '98.
