Le saxophone baryton est un instrument riche et plein de possibilités; Pourtant, s'il est une voix indispensable pour grand nombre de formations et si quelques merveilleux jazzmen l'ont considérablement émancipé, il reste sous-estimé et trop rarement mis en avant. Alain CUPPER a choisi le baryton pour s'exprimer au sein de son quartet et à travers sa musique. Sur cet imposant instrument si difficile à " apprivoiser ", il a su développer un lyrisme et une sonorité reconnaissables, reflets de son tempérament et de sa sensibilité. Avec un répertoire constitué de compositions originales, de quelques standards revisités et de morceaux " hommages " aux grands saxophonistes qui ont fait l'histoire du sax baryton. Aidé dans l'aventure par des musiciens qu'il connaît bien pour avoir souvent travaillé avec eux dans différentes formations. Le groupe joue et propulse un swing aux couleurs Hard Bop qu'il communique avec énergie, cohésion et tendresse mais toujours avec un esprit personnel.

The baritone sax is a rich and versatile instrument but, although it is an essential element of many bands and some terrific jazzmen have considerably popularised it, it continues to be underrated and is all too rarely given the spotlight. Alain Cupper chose the baritone to express himself musically, notably in his quartet. With this impressive instrument, so difficult to "tame", he has developed a recognisable lyricism and sound, reflecting his personality and his sensitivity. His repertoire is made up of original compositions, some reworked standards and pieces which pay homage to the great saxophonists who have written the story of the baritone sax. He is assisted in this venture by musicians that he knows well from having worked with them in different line-ups . The group plays and promotes swing tinged with "Hard Bop", playing with energy, cohesion and tenderness but always with a personal touch.
