JEAN WARLAND BANDS

1. A TRAIN SEXTET

This group aims to pay a tribute to one of 20th century's most famous musicians : Mr. Duke ELLINGTON.April 29 '99 was the 100th anniversary of his date of birth.

The tribute is being paid through arrangements and faithful transcriptions made by bassist/arranger Jean WARLAND, who is known for his deep knowledge of Duke's music.
Pianist Michel HERR, while preserving his unique personality, alludes to the particular and rich sounds of Duke and illustrates Duke's art of accompanying .

The repertoire includes some of the very known pieces but also some rare pearls and unknown tunes, like the great "B sides" of 78 rpm, as Jean WARLAND likes to put it.

The band made his first appearance in February '99, at the Cologne "Subway" club, an evening recorded by WDR tv. Many concerts and festivals followed in 99 and 2000, all in front of an enthusiastic audience.

2. SAX PORT

Another band to pay a tribute to Duke ELLINGTON. The arrangements by Jean WARLAND feature a sax section including young and talented players from Germany and a nice team of top Belgian musicians.

This band appeared at Jazz à Liège festival on April 23, '99 (RTBF radio recording).

3. SAX NO END

This band got his name after a brilliant and acrobatic composition by Belgian composer/arranger FrancyBOLAND, a great classic of Big Band music.
SAX NO END was formed in 1993 when bassist Jean WARLAND, more and morepresent in Belgium (until then, he was mainly working abroad), discovered a newgeneration of musicians of exceptional talent. With the purpose of endowing this great sax section with a tonus ad-hoc, he has added an exciting rhythm section and the veryexperienced talent of trumpet player Richard ROUSSELET, who dialogs in contrast with thesaxophonists.Jean WARLAND has chosen the repertoire, arranged the pieces and through extensive rehearsals achieved an ensemble of the highest level.
The band appeared in concerts and festivals, such as the Jazz Middelheim festival '95 (Antwerp), Jazz à Liège, and on various radio shows (BRTN).
