EUROPEAN JAZZ FOUNDATION FOUNDING MEMBERS :

Europe, an ensemble of countries of various mentalities and specific habits, does not have any particular ethnic or linguistic unity.
And yet, men, artists, whether they were born in Lisbon, Madrid, Paris, Brussels, Berlin, Rome, Vienna, London, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Oslo, Geneva or Helsinki, on each occasion of encounter, dialogue, exchange, mutual respect, talk and mostly when listening to each other show comprehension. Needless to say they are :

    THE JAZZ MUSICIANS

The future of Europe also depend on the success of fruitful exchanges which are based on a formidable heritage made of the mosaic of the myriad of cultural richness.
At a time when different countries of the European Union organize, with growing success, international jazz festivals which remain tributary to American jazz, The European Jazz Foundation, jointly with the RTBF (Belgian Radio & Television of the French speaking community) and France 3, decided to raise to the challenge of creating a unifying musical event.
By rallying a very large public, the EuroDjango will enable European jazz musicians to acquire a fame to commensurate with their talent.

It is in Europe that jazz, a world cultural patrimony, drives best the symbols who make the particularity of this music :
    1. Confirmed European Musicians : (the musician must have performed and commercialized, in his own country, at least three albums, age notwithstanding).
    2. New European Talent : (should have at least three albums as leader and be under 30 years of age).
    3. Special Award : (a person designated for his/her notoriety and/or contributing action towards music and the jazz musicians).

The European jazz Foundation trusts that the winners will unanimously receive due recognition by specialists, press and jazz music affectionates.

" EURODJANGO " The reference for European jazz musicians

  • European jazz music and the musicians are constantly lacking adequate media exposure, they hardly move or very little between the EU countries.
  • The EURODJANGO will be an encouraging factor for the musicians to meet international professionals (either because they will be present during the award ceremony, or through media exposure as the ceremony will be televised and largely transmitted).
  • The European Jazz Foundation is aiming to ease circulation of musicians within the EU space.
  • At the crossroad of ethnic influences Jazz finds its identity in the respect of individuality.

Solely devoted to jazz music and musicians, the EURODJANGO event, which knows no frontiers, will be the occasion for a grand and exceptional concert :

    Friday February 2000 (20:30)
at the Cirque Royal in Brussels
organized with LE BOTANIQUE, RTBF, FRANCE 3, l'U.E.R. and R.F.I.

This exceptional event will be broadcast :

    1. On Television by the RTBF, France 3 and a number of other countries, members of the Eurovision.
    2. On radio by the countries members of the EBU (European Broadcasting Union)
The real opportunity for a large scale exposure of the Eurodjango is an occasion to engage in a European policy which is up to reputation for the sake of jazz.
