Jazz Hoeilaart Intern'l began on the second Sunday of September 1979, with the intention of making better known the considerable talents of young jazz musicians (under the age of 30).

Between 1979 and 1998 the organizers received in total 1153 entries from more than 50 different countries. from Australia and America to Japan, India, Europe and the former countries of the Soviet Union with 184 groups who have taken part in the contest. (In addition there were numerous other Awards such os the the Trophy for the Best Soloists. The Prizes for the best interpertion of Belgian compositions and also Concerts given by the Prizewinners ond other important contracts. In short : we can look back on o rich period in the history of Jazz.

Jazz Hoeilaart Intern'l is a co-production between the cultural organization "de Rand" and the community center "De Bosuil" in Jezus-Eik/Overijse, with the collaboration of the Ministry of the Flemish Community, VRT-Radio 1 (Radio & Television Network, Broadcast of the Flemish Community. BRF (Belgischer Rundfunk und Fernsehen), the Province of Flemish Brabant, the Belgian Artistic Promotion (SABAM), the Municipalities Hoeilaart and Overijse and numerous other authorities and sponsors.
