Since their first CD, "Los Locos", SLANG have already made a great name for themselves. With each concert, their music and their audience grow.
With "Save the chilis", they pursue their relentless drive and add a much wider range of sounds to their own, very personal -sound-. This is purely their own, and has created its own genre, -REC-, (the French acronym for Ethno-Coltranian Rock), an exquisite blend of rock, ethnic music and jazz (particularly the music of John Coltrane).
The pieces on the CD voyage in all directions, ranging from the funk on -Small Steps- to Arab music on -Bazar-. There is also an allusion to Arno on -Oude Fox- (François Garny was for a long time Arno's bass player). And the beautiful -La trilogie d'Apu- has strong Indian influences.-Hombre Feli- takes us into South-American dance steps, while the rock element is present on several pieces, with Jimi Hendrix's shadow hovering over most, but particularly over -Own Wings-. One of the big surprises in relation to their first CD is that Slang sing on several pieces, and this is certainly going to open up a few new doors ... With "Save the chilis", Slang pushes out the frontiers of REC - wider, deeper and defintely hotter !
Depuis leur premier CD "Los Locos", SLANG s'est déjà fait un nom. A chaque concert, leur musique et leur public grandit.
Avec "Save the chilis", ils poursuivent cet élan en y rajoutant une gamme de sons plus vaste. Le son qu'ils dégagent leur est tout ˆ fait personnel et fait office de style musical. En effet, ils qualifient leur musique de -REC-, un mélange de rock, de musique ethnique et de Jazz (surtout l'influence de John Coltrane).
Ils voyagent dans toutes les directions, et nous trouvons aussi bien du funk dans -Small Steps-, que de la musique arabe dans -Bazaar-. Il y a également un clin d'oeil à -Arno- dans -Oude Fox- (François a longtemps été le bassiste d'Arno). -La trilogie d'Apu- dégage des parfums d'Inde, tandis que -Hombre Feli- invite à un pas de danse sud-américain. La facette -Rock- est mise en avant dans plusieurs morceaux, et l'ombre de Jimi Hendrix plane un peu partout, mais plus spécialement dans -Own Wings-.
Depuis le second CD, la surprise, par rapport à leur premier CD, est qu'il y a du chant sur plusieurs morceaux, ce qui va certainement ouvrir d'autres portes. Avec "Save the chilis", Slang pousse plus loin les frontières du REC , et attention, ça arrache !
