Découvrir ce premier disque de Pierre Michaud, c'est pénétrer dans un univers passionnant, varié, d'une grande cohérence (harmonieux enchaînement des 20 plages), où le violoncelliste, pianiste et chanteur dialogue avec lui-même invitant l'auditeur à la méditation parsemée de surprises et de pointes d'humour.

La quasi totalité des pièces tourne bien sur autour du violoncelle poussé ici dans des retranchements inhabituels, utilisé tantôt comme une guitare (picking, pizzis, arpèges), tantôt comme une contrebasse, tantôt comme un violon.

Cette virtuosité n'est pourtant jamais gratuite mais mise au service de compositions originales tutoyant de vastes territoires musicaux.
AUX réminiscences classiques de la musique de chambre s'ajoutent des pointes jazzy, des mélodies pop, des harmonies contemporaines, le tout sans la moindre concession à une mode, sans vulgarité, sans banalité. Bref , une synthèse personnelle d'influences multiples suscitée par cette fin de siècle foisonnante.

Mais Pierre nous surprend aussi au piano (le très beau Evanescence) et par son chant très maîtrisé , notamment en voix de tête. Il est également l'auteur des textes des 8 chansons- Des textes simples et beaux évoquant le bonheur d'être papa (Juliette, Sixteen Months Old), la quête d'harmonie (Something Inside, Cicadas' Land), la création d'une chanson (Hello Song, très accrocheur).

On se laisse ainsi glisser au fil du disque jusqu'à son cœur où se trouvent les pièces qui me touchent le plus : Regret The Happiness Card, Evanescence, Aquanotes, ...

Grande impatience de découvrir cela sur scène.

 To discover this first record by Pierre Michaud is to enter into a fascinating and varied universe of great coherence (each of the 20 tracks harmoniously follows on from the previous one), where the cellist, pianist and singer dialogues with himself inviting the listener to meditation, sprinkled with surprises and humorous touches.

The quasi-totality of the album focuses, of course, around the cello. The artist explores unusual paths with his instrument, sometimes using it as a guitar (plucking, pizzicati, arpeggios), other times as a double bass or as a violin.

However, this virtuosity is never gratuitous. Rather, it services original compositions covering vast musical territories with great ease. Jazzy touches, pop melodies and contemporary harmonies add to the classical reminiscences of chamber music and this, without any vulgarity or banality and without the slightest concession to any hype. In short, a personal synthesis of multiple influences brought about by this tremendously rich end of century.

Pierre also surprises us at the piano (in the very beautiful Evanescence) and by his mastered singing, in particular when singing in a head voice. He is also the author of the lyrics of the 8 songs which are simple and beautiful, and evoke the happiness of being a father (Juliette, Sixteen Months Old), a quest for harmony (Something Inside, Cicadas' Land), the creation of a song (Hello Song, very catchy).

We slide through the various tracks into the heart of the album where we encounter the pieces that touch me the most : Regret, The Happiness Card, Evanescence, Aquanotes, ...

I am very impatient to discover this on stage.
